Volta Recalls 140,000 Arc 14 Chargers

Volta has issued a voluntary recall covering 65 W chargers shipped with Arc 14 laptops between March and July 2026, after 31 reports of overheating and two of melted housings.

Volta Recalls 140,000 Arc 14 Chargers
A batch of 65 W USB-C bricks shipped with Arc 14 laptops can overheat. The laptops themselves are unaffected.

What happened

Volta says an internal current-limiting component was substituted during a supply shortage in the affected production window, and that the substitute part can fail in a way that allows the charger to draw excess current under sustained load.

There have been 31 reported incidents worldwide, two involving melted plastic housings and none involving injury or property damage beyond the charger itself. The company identified the issue through warranty return analysis rather than a customer report escalation, which is the system working as intended.

How to check yours

Affected chargers carry a serial number beginning VC65 followed by a batch code between 0312 and 0729. The number is printed on the underside of the brick, in small type near the folding prongs.

Volta's recall page accepts the serial and will ship a replacement within five business days at no cost, with no requirement to return the original - customers are asked to dispose of it at an electronics recycling point.

The Arc 14 laptop itself is not affected and does not need to be returned. Any other 65 W USB-C PD charger will run the machine safely in the meantime.

Our take

This is a well-handled recall: identified internally, announced quickly, replacements shipped without requiring a return, and a clear serial-number check. That is roughly the opposite of how this industry usually behaves.

It does not change our 9.0 review score for the Arc 14. It does reinforce a point we made in that review - a laptop that charges over standard USB-C rather than a proprietary barrel connector gives you an immediate workaround when the supplied brick is the problem.
